Katherine Gullo
After ten years of study and teaching at Pratt Institute and Parson’s School of Design, I left NYC eighteen years ago to return to the county of my birth and become, by hook or by crook, a self-supporting ceramic-artist. With great help from the kiln-gods, I found an old farmstead in the middle of grape-country, seated below an ancient eskar and its monumental white pines. There, I drew a line in the clay, made a studio out of a light-dazzled greenhouse, began to paint and mosaic my little brown house, and, wonder of wonders, proceeded to create colorful, whimsical, sculptural clay objects - somewhat in the style of both the Majolica and Palissy pottery traditions - which reflect my love for the natural world around me.
